Pertronix II and Plug Gap

Post by Supermike »

Hey folks,

I'm about to install my new PII system and do a tune-up, and was prepared to gap my new plugs in my 352 to .035 per the recommendations on this page:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 7&p=118022

However, I found another thread where some folks who were running the Pertronix PI/PII were gapping to .045:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 9&p=362051

So I'm just curious as to how others who are running the Pertronix setup might have their plugs gapped... certainly .045 would
save me some time since they came gapped to that spec! 8)

Thanks!

Update... I also found this thread:

http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 045#p95748

Seems the consensus was to open the gap a bit more. I bought AutoLite AP45 plugs, and though the info on O'Reilly's website showed the came pre-gapped to .035, I KNOW when I checked them last night they were .045. I put the little round plug gap tool on them and slid it around 'til it stopped and it was .045... or am I reading it wrong??

I just finished installing the PerTronix II and Flame Thrower II, and a new set of Autolite 45s. I opened them to 0.040". Only thing I noticed different was how quick it started cold. But it started that way with the old plugs, so, I can't say the gap did anything. The instructions with the PerTronix II unit says leave the stock gap alone unless the engine is modified.
