Front cab mount frame bracket question

Post by bmerkley58 »

Does anybody know if the front cab mount frame brackets from a 73-79
will work on the 67-72? The ones I have on my 67 frame are badly rusted
and all the ones I looked at on 67-72 frames in my area are no better.

You might post a request for these in the parts wanted section.
I had to replace mine and I was offered a set from another member, I THINK from NC, but got them from Keith instead.
You will have to grind off the rivet heads, then use a long and sturdy punch with a three pound sledge to get the rivets out of the frame. The top rivets on the rear of the bracket (side) are nearly imposible to get with the grinder without grinding the bracket, but since you're going to trash them that won't matter. The rivets on the top of the frame are going to be REALLY tough to get to with the cab in place, and if you do get them cut off you won't have room to use the punch to drive them out of the frame.
Sorry to have to tell you this, but you may have to remove the cab to get those brackets off, unless you cut out the floor pans (hey, they needed replacing anyway, right? ) and cab mounts
I did mine while doing the floor pans, and had to wait to get the top rear rivets off until we had the pans cut out.

If your not in a big hurry, I can let you have the ones under my parts truck. but it will take me a while before I pull the cab off it (a month or maybe 2)

I will check to make sure they are good before I pull 'em.

Mine came off the frame Keith had left over from his cab donor truck.
With the cab off, it was easy to get to the rivets.
