shifter is buggered inside column

Post by mebruce »

The cab mounts were so rusty on my 72 that the cab actually dropped a bit causing the shifter linkages to quit working properly. I assume that over the years, the previous owner compensated for this by using both hands to force the shifter into gear, thereby wearing out parts inside the column. Anybody out there ever overhaul a 3 on the tree?? Perhaps theres a kit somewhere in the world?

I think most people take the easy way out and just convert the 3-on-the-tree to a floor shift, or find another junkyard column to use. I don't think there's a 'kit' to rebuild the column, so you'd just have to disassemble it, find out which parts are worn and then start the hunt for the individual pieces.
