Do I have a 9"?

Post by saidyene »

My VIN decodes to having a ford 3.25. Is that a 9"? It would make sense to me but i just want to be sure. For the light duty truck and the ocational towing of a car trailer will the 3.25 work well or should i change them out? I dont expect to tow more then 2-5 times a year.

EDIT: I guess I should have posted this in the drivetrain section. I just hit the new post button when the question came to mind.

Yes. When it says "Ford" rearend (as opposed to 'Dana') it's a 9". Those gears are higher than what you'd typically want for towing a loaded trailer, though it would be fine on a limited basis and will be good for mileage overall.

3.25 9" is what I have also with a 3 spd light duty trans....A good way to ID a 9" is to see how the guts load into it.
On a 9" access to it's "innerds" are from the front.
