72 f100: need help choosing a carburetor
Hi, I just bought a 72 f100 ranger xlt and need some help on buying a carburetor. The truck has a 300 cid inline 6 with a Crane cams high lift/high duration cam, Clifford 6=8 4bbl single plane intake manifold , Heddman dual outlet headers and dual flowmaster mufflers. The guy I bought it from sold the holly he had on it, so I have no carb. What I need to know is what size CFM carb should I be looking for to work with this engine setup. I have a motorcraft carb from a ford 490, but fear it will be a little overkill. what dou you guys think? I am willing to buy a new carb ( I'm 19, so I have a budget) but don't realy know what to get. I was looking at an edelbrock 600 cfm 4 barrel from Summit for $250, would this carb work well on this engine, if so is that a reasonable price? I don't have much experiance with truck carbs, though I have been working motorcycle engines and carbs since I was 5. I just wanted some knowledgeable advice before I start working on it. oh, and any advice on where to get the best deal on parts (body, steering, seals, interior, etc..) would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. ![FORDification Rocks! :fr:](./images/smilies/icon_FORDification.gif)

I would use a Holley. My experience with the Edelbrocks suck. But, carb choices are just a personal issue I believe. Some people like the pros of one carb and some like others.

Re: 72 f100: need help choosing a carburetor
Thanks for the advice, however I don't have a 2 barrel , so it seem sort of pointless to me to buy one when I could get a 4 barrel for a few more bucks. Realy all I need to know is what size/model/brand 4 barrel should I be looking at? Like I said earlier, I don't know much about truck carburetors. I would prefer to have a 4 barrel , just because it's allready set-up for one. once again, thanks for the help.

I have been looking at holly carbs and came across their #8007 carb, which is a 4 bbl 390 cfm . http://www.holley.com/0-8007.asp
What do you guys think? would this be a good choice for my 6 cylinder?
Thanks.

That's what I plan to run. It is a very popular carb for this engine combination. also 450-500 carbs seem to work well too. I think the 600 would be a little too much.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
