Front end parts recommendations

Post by greenbank »

Anyone have preferred vendors for front end parts, and anything worthwhile I should get?

I'm going to get new springs, shocks, bushings, kingpin bushings, tie rod ends, brake disks, brake pads...what else do I need? I'd like to make this as painless as possible, though I know I'll need a machine shop to put in the new bronze bushings. Do the kingpins themselves generally wear?

I looked in LMC's part catalog, and I didn't see any break out of F100 vs. F250 vs. Camper Special springs. I'd like to retain stock springing and bring my ride-height back up to where it should be on the front.

I'm trying to keep the truck's downtime as short as possible.

I got the front-end Super Kit from PST, which includes all new steering linkage, radius arm and axle pivot bushings and kingpin set. They offer the bushing sets in rubber or polygraphite....I got the polygraphite. The fact that it came in a kit saved a few bucks off the per-piece tally.

As long as you regularly grease the kinpins, they'll most definitely outlast the rest of the truck. However, most previous owners were not too adamant about proper upkeep and maintenance, which is why they're often worn and/or binding.
