New Ford wheels on an old Ford truck

Post by Bobaloo2 »

Has anybody tried to open up the holes on the newer (97 - up) Ford aluminum F150 wheels to make it for the 5X5.5 pattern. Looks like it could be done with a file or one more notch on a Uni-bit.
Should I? Will it kill me?

Basically you'll be making them like the old unilug wheels they sold to fit a Ford or a Chevy (they had elongated holes)? The front mags that were on my '65 Stang were like that and they never fell off. :D If the back of the wheel is solid in the lug area and you used hardened washers under the heads of the lugs, to spread the load it'd probably work.

Disclaimer: Try at your own risk

Oh yeah if the wheels won't be hub centering, you'll want to set them up in a mill and elongate the holes as the bolt pattern will be centering your wheels and will have to be accurate. Unless you like the wheels to be mounted off center so it'll look like one of those clown cars going down the road........

I'm sure my grand kids would love it, but I better stay away from making the truck any funnier looking than it is. The peeling silver spray bomb paint job is enough....

It appears the difference is 4.7 mm. The newer wheels are 5 X 135mm,
the 5 X 5.5 works out to be 139.7mm. That close. Anybody else tried this, please post. Thanks
