Whats the diff. between columns

Post by wobblefoot »

Whats the difference between a 68-72 auto power steering column and a 73-79 auto pw column?
I do know the wiring is different.
Wondering if its a direct bolt in with either the saginaw or bendix box?
Do I need the fender wall plate that says power steering or can I use mine thats for manual?
I have a 71 F100 Ive searched everywhere to make sure before I do it I have everything.

as far as bolting it they will bolt in. the saginaw box is the more common in 73-79. so you will want to have the saginaw box in your truck if you use the 73-79 column. and yes you need the power steering bracket and not the manual bracket . you dont have to use a bracket at all if you want. but it helps. with support and possible drafts from failing rubber do to age and weather. plus it makes the job look finished. the only other differences are wiring and the hazard switch in the column. as well as the prndl indicator. the 78/79 columns are even more different. i would try to stay with a 73-77 column if you can.
