Cragar S/S wheel question

Post by jmg4646 »

I have a 70 F100 and i did the disc brake conversion with 73' donor parts. Also I have tubed the rear and used Cragar S/S wheels. My problem now is I just read on cragars website that the cragar S/S wheel doesn't fit on 73-79 pickups because the hub. Has anyone used these wheels after they did the disc brake conversion? Or what do you need to do to make these work cause I really don't want to start over again and buy new wheels. Any help would be great.
If it's too big, make it fit, If it breaks, It probably needed to be replaced anyway!

if they wont fit then you might be able to use a spacer plate and longer wheel studs. i cant belive you found some of those old wheels still around that have our bolt pattern.

I wasn't aware they wouldn't fit. :hmm: I didn't think there was anything special about the hubs, nothing oddball from any other that I'm aware of. So I just visited their website (http://www.cragarwheel.com) and found that statement:
All Ford vans and pickups with a 5x5.5 bolt circle require spacer kit #29201 on the front wheels using CRAGAR S/S style wheels. S/S wheels will not fit 1973–77 Ford pickup front hubs.
Interesting! If you decide to go with the Cragars and use the spacer, please follow up with some pictures, so we can see WTH they're talking about.

here is a pic of a 65 with a 73-77 disc brake conversion. as you can see the hubs wouldn't clear the stock hubcaps.

I have Pro-Streeted two ford trucks , I used wheels that had a real deep back dish , these wheels were made from stock truck wheels and banded to 14inch
wide and they look stock from side veiw. Well after I had them made they would not go over the hubs on the rear end! So I had a shop cut the rib off the hubs
and they mounted right up, and I ran them like that for years with no problems. The first truck was a 77 and when I Pro-Streeted my 65, I used a grinder and
I removed the rib my self it was real easy!

P.S. I guess I'm saying with some checking, This may work with the mag wheels you are trying!

Cut ( FOUR ) pieces of an old ford truck frame that has been junked, fit them to the inside of your good frame, add weld and bolts, the leafs are now inboard, time for the (big WIDE tires)!

Oh yeah (Tubbs)
