I've been on for a few days now and already I've recieved help. I am the new owner of a 1972 Ford F250 4x4 with a 360.

The history of the truck as told to me is: It was purchased by a fire department and they used it for about twenty years. They in turn gave it to a volunteer fire department about sixteen years ago. The second department had to get rid of it due to some kind of national fire regualtions so I made an offer and ended up getting it for what I thought was a really good price. After all it was garage kept for all of those years. According to the VIN it was a style side when shipped, so I cannot verify that the first fire department was the origninal owner(it seems as though they would have ordered a chasis model). When the second department recieved it, it had an extremely heavy steel box for storage of equipment, 250 gallons of water, pump, and hose reel. A few years ago after snapping an axle and yoke, they dropped the box and put a flatbed on it. They then added a "skid" firefighting apperatus onto that. So it has a history of working hard when in use. Yet the odometer only showed 10,978 miles on it when I drove it home. They did say they rebuilt the engine in '99. The reason for the rebuild is unknown.

I plan to make the truck into a triple purpose vehicle. As I already have a daily driver car and truck. So I wanted this vehicle for the following: as a project for learning, a farm truck (so I don't have to use my 4x2 in that capacity anymore), and just a fun truck to drive around with. Anyway I recieved it in running condition with a steel flatbed, new tires, working wench, and a full tank of gas. Its ugly as hell, as it is lime green and still has the department name painted on the door.

I'm here in the East Texas Pineywoods area and am delighted to have found this website and forum. Though I am looking for a shop manual so I can make sure to do things right. I am an extreme novice in the auto-mechanics relm. And the oldest vehicle I ever owned was a '81 Olds when I was 16. Since then I was trying to keep to newer vehicles and looking sharp. Well now its time to go retro! Can't wait to get my hands dirty on my next days off from work.

If the pic loads, its as it sits in the fire department a little over a week ago. Yeah the lights and skid unit was removed before I drove it home.

Welcome from SoCal! My sister lives in Live Oak TX, so I guess I have aTX connection. You've got a cool looking truck. If the fire dept. owned it, it's probably in good shape. I have a '67 that I purchased 10 years ago for $900. good luck with the truck.

I've been playing with the site quite a bit. How do you make a regular picture to be less than 6kb which is what the avatar upload keeps telling me is the limit? Nothing I have is that small.

www.photobucket.com Upload the pics there, and than you can resize it, it gives you the options to change it. I think the small is the one I use for the pics in my signature. I believe they would make it for the avatar limit Hope that helps!
