16 and 16.5

Post by mouse »

I have a 71 250 and had a bad dry roted tire so got my friends spare from his 89 suburban. that rim has a 235/85r16 tire on it and the center hole is a 1/32 to small so it won't fit over my back hub but will mount on the front. I had 8.75 16.5 on back and 9.5 16.5 on the front, the back tire looked small to start off with and now it looks goofy. what my luck that some thing would have to be modified to fit them and I found a great set of them in the junk yard that I was about to get :x

take a grinder and grind the center of the wheels out enough to make them work.

An machine shop will turn enough out to fit. Had this done to some Chevy 19.5 inch rims to fit a dodge power wagon.

My 72 had 8.00x16.5s when I got it. It really looked goofy.
Personally, I would find a set of 16" rims from a 97 or earlier F250. They are 7" wide and you can run up to a 265x75 with no problem. I run 235x85 fronts and 265x75 rears. The height is about the same at 31 inches
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

235/85/16 are hard to find around here unless you have lots of money.

I got a set of 16s with 235/85 tires that were on a friends 89 suburban and have a lot tread still on them, he put 22s on his 97 suburban and put the Eagle 16 from that on his 89 and I got these . so I am deciding witch way I wont to go to enlarge the center on two to fit on the back

I still need to clean and paint them because there scratched up from hub caps. that is my only dog dish so I need find more or different

if you do enlarge two of them do all of them. that way you can swap them around if need be. or tire rotation time or what ever. flat tires can come in cycles sometimes.

I have been trowing around a ideal in my head with no conclusion. I would like to use a 11" to 12" wide rims with the offset of a dully rim on the rear and have a matching 33" tire. I am not bothered by it rubbing because I will tub it a bit when I replace the floor of the bed with diamond plate sheet

I am probably going to go for 285/75/16 on front and 375/55/16 or 33/15.50/16 on the rear. dick cepek F-C II or a mickey's Baja MTZ SLT seem to be the only two options with out go to SS. I'd just would like the equivalences of a dually with out going to a dually. 375/55/16 would have about a 15" sidewall width and would fill the well good without rubbing the leafs. I would have to find out how far I can off set the wheel in and who has 12" wide rims with that offset :?

yea front disk brake parts are a little high in price and mine has disk brakes. I am not going to find the size tire I want in 17s, 33/15.50s can only be found in 15s, 16s, and 16.5s. 16s seem to be the easiest to find 33/15.50. both 8x6.5in and 8x165.1mm are interchangeable, but 8x170mm from a Super Duty stand alone. gm 8 lug wheels have a smaller center than ford or dodge as well, so to find 17s cheep you might end up getting them off a dodge

I've seen this wheel come up on craigslist a few times. So if you keep watching there will be more!
That's a killer deal you got! I really like that look

I have a concern on the Dodge wheels, in that they use a 9/16" stud, where our F250s are 1/2". I'm still trying to figure out what it would take to install 9/16" lugs.
I have a friend with a Bridgeport, and I may just take my drums and hubs to his house, to open them up for the bigger lug bolts.
I've seen a few sets of the Dodge 5 spoke 17" wheels and tires, very reasonable. A little work on the center caps to remove the Rams head, and they'd look very nice on a bump.
