Power steering leak fix help

Post by 69rangerman »

I've finally gotten most of the leaks eliminated from this and that, but the one that causes the biggest mess, and makes others hard to diagnose is the power steering box on my 69 ranger. It's the ford box.

Is there a re-seal/build kit for this?

Has anyone ever done this and how big a pain is it?

Since the PS is forward of every other leak point, the stuff blows backwards and coats everything.

Thanks for any advice.

They make seal kits. It's a pretty easy job. You can do it while it's still bolted to the truck.
Is it the one on the bottom, pitman shaft?

Thanks Jake,
Not sure where ..to me that's the scary part of the engine bay. I'll clean it off and see if I can find out.

Right now the entire box is shiny, and it looks like fluid is also either leaking from one of pump hoses, or from the pump itself as there is a drop hanging from what look like the front housing flange seal thingy.

I replaced gaskets on my power steering gear once and it still leaked. Not as bad, but still leaked. I ended up buying a new box and no leaks after 2 years! Sorry for the bad news, but maybe you'll have better luck!
