re: help?
If you can turn it over I would try and get it started to see if it even needs to be torn apart or not.

jhndrrus,
A Chiltons or Clymers manual is a good start too.
You can usually find them at about any parts store.

re: help?
well before you do anything along the lines of tearing the engine apart you should perform a compression test and then a leak down test. That will give you a pretty good idea on how condition of the insides of the engine is, and where if there are problems where to start looking.
Your auto class should be able to help you with this or if not ask on here i can try to help you through it or some one else can as well.
A chiltons/haynes manual on Ford FE engines as well as a set of shop manuals for your year of truck will be invaluable here.
I my self have a 67 with a 352 engine that needs rebuilt ran ok despite all the valve problems and low compression. Im gonna start getting it rebuilt this october or so when we start rebuilding engines in auto class here at the college.

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.
