Painting Problem, Looking for answer from all you painters

Post by farmtruckman »

Painting section by section, my 67 and keep running into gun problem. Using new gravity fed gun and getting "spitting" when spraying either primer or topcoat. Both paints (Martin Senour) are reduced per instructions and weather not factor. This has happened more with the gravity fed gun than the pot gun. What am I doing wrong. "Spits" are a pain in a** when color sanding out. Other than that, I am finally getting the hang of painting.

Any suggestions, greatly appreciated. Gun has spit since new. I was wondering if something leaking within the gun?

Thanks for help :P

Hmm, I'm not a painter, but I have heard that spattering can be caused by the air pressure being too high, and intermittent spitting can be caused by dried out packing rings on your needle valve.

The packings need oiled or greased and tightened. I used trans fluid for years it only takes a couple of drops then work it in. Then replace the packing nut and hook it a air hose and tighten till it stops spitting. You have two packings to oil the fluid needle and the rod for the air supply under the trigger.

make sure your packing nut is tight, and check to see if the fluid tip you are using is compatible with the paint your using
