idle goes up when i hit he brakes

ok when i depress my brake pedal my idle raises a bit. i know my booster isnt working and i need to replace it. but anyone know what would cause this?
1968 F250 Ranger 2wd 472ci TH400 Caddy powered.
1979 F250 Ranger 4X4 400ci T18
anyone need a 60x24x24 flatbed semi toolbox?

I would think that the only thing it could be is the bad booster causing a vacuum leak when you hit the brakes.

Plug the outlet on the manifold to the booster and see if it still does it. :thup:

Hi folks,

If pressing the brake pedal caused a vacuum leak, wouldn't the idle speed decrease? I was under the impression that reduced vacuum caused the idle to go down, not up.

I've heard folks describing this particular situation in lots of different cars, so I guess it's pretty common.

Point taken Robroy. I guess what I should have said was, whether the vacuum leak is increasing or decreasing when the brake pedal is pushed, it had to have something to do with the bad booster.
