Locking Doors without Keys

Unfortunately no I did not take any pictures. I did it 6 years ago and at the time I got it I was to young to care and I didn't think that maybe I would have a use for them later. If nobody care figure out what I'm talking about I will definitely try to explain further. I just put up a post in the welcome mat and I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Or there is always the nice feature of Keyless entry.

When I first got my truck, the keys were lost, so I would lock the passenger side door, shut the driver door, jump in the bed, crawl through the back window, lock the door, and shut the window. All without using keys. Then I had the problem of not locking the window. But, you have to have the sliding type of window and be able to fit, which is hard. I went to the junkyard and found a truck with keys in it and got locks. That is also a way you can use "keyless entry" on your truck.

I prefer the no-way-you-can-lock-your-keys-in-this-truck-without-another-key locking system built into our trucks. I always thought that was one of the best things about them.

I did end up locking my keys in couple of times though, but I learned from my brothers teachings on his 76 Ford. I popped the hood and took out my power steering dip stick. You wedge it under the lock for your wing window lift up and that will unlock. Then all you have to do is reach in through the wing, roll down your window and reach in and unlock it. It works out if you don't have time or the patience to wait for someone to bring you a spare.

I've never locked the keys in my '69.. however the "Queen Mary " being an '03 locks very easy without the key and it don't matter where the key is,i.e laying in the console (twice) and in the ignition but only once and have only been driving it 3 months. I now have a valet key that only comes off my belt when the belt comes off, makes leaving it running with the a/c on while in on sales calls (but only in small town Texas) quite handy.

I do think I'll eventually put power door locks on all nut the driver's door.
I don't mind using the key to lock it but don't like the climbing around locking the other three doors before I lock my door.
I do usually leave it unlocked with the windows down.

I took whole locking mechanism out of the door and found that when the door closes there is a small arm that lifts up and unlocks the door. You cant just eliminate the whole thing because it is needed for another part of the mechanism but you can cut off just enough so that the arm just misses unlocking the door.

Will a power lock kit work for the 67 style locks

The reason I ask is that to lock our doors you need to push the handle down instead of simply pressing the lock button down.

Wonder if the actuators would have enough strength to lock the doors?

I have the sure fire fix to this query. Move to the country and never take your keys out of the ignition. Works for me.

me too. dont even know where my house keys are, as i have never used them. keys stay in the ignition on all my vehicles,cant lose them that way and no need to carry a big ring of keys.
wife locks her truck at work, its a 66 and locks the same as a 67.

My GMC POS uses keys for the door but not the ignition. It drives like a car with bad brakes and no acceleration. 9000 lbs at all times and 350 with TH400 no go and no whoa.

The keys stay in my ignition most times as well anymore. I lived in Seattle a few years ago and had to keep the truck locked, but I was never bothered by having to lock the doors from outside. I thought it's a good feature.

Any old truck with wing windows is so darn easy to break into if you leave something valuable inside the cab your asking to get ripped off. I've bought a few old fords without keys and getting in through wing windows is a snap, Ford used the same ignition switch for decades, All I did was pull the connector off the back of the switch and plug a spare ignition in. Vroom. It also seams that the key for my '70 unlocks 3/4's of all old ford doors and starts atleast 1/2 the ignitions I've tried it in.

Moving to the country is a sure fire way to get past locking the doors from outside bothering you.

Upgrade to power locks? No I have hated that same feature on several differents vehicles I have had. I would like to see exactly what it takes to fix it.

the key for the wing window is located under the hood.every bump has one.anyone know what it is?
