Sand and Primer

Post by old_mare »

Just got the notion that I should get a coat of primer on the old Mare before the snow flies.

Any recommendations on product and process?

If you aren't going to topcoat it immediately I would advise a really good epoxy primer sealer.

Well, I had some fun the past couple days. It was my birthday yesterday, and so I spent the last 2 days off from work. Got a coat of primer on almost my whole bump! Just keeping the two tone look with the primer until I get my new body parts and then I'll paint again but wow what good practice!! :D

Will post pics here in a few. :fr:

Here is a before shot, so you get the idea....

And here is the finished product (well, not finished, but you know ;))

So, I got a crash course in body work. Thanks for the tips, I'll be using them when it comes time to re-do all this. I sealed it today with a primer sealer and it looks great! (Well, better than it did anyway ;)) Now all I have left to do is the hood, and doors and any touch up.

got a question for you .... maybe its my eyes but it looks like your cab mounts in the front are either bad or the rubber mount is gone because of the gap difference in the top of the fender door line and the bottem of the line.

I wouldn't doubt that. However those fenders are so rusted out and bent I think that probably has something to do with the funky spaces.

Cab will be coming off the frame early next spring when we get settled in the house. Im tearing it all down to the frame and building it all over again. New cab mounts are on the list.

ok just thought id pass that on to ya the 70's cab mounts was bad enough that the doors creaked and groaned every time i opened the door and the hood was hard to open with out pushing down on it as you pull the release lever... but if your doing a cab off resto im sure you would have found them when you got there.

btw the 70's cab i just unbolted the back 2 bolts and since i wasnt saving the cab i was able to easily tip the cab over with out even un bolting the fronts cause there was nothing for them to bolt to LOL.

good luck and Your truck will look like new before you know it.
