Finally got a 3 speed power steering column

Post by MAK »

Scored a 3 speed power steering column on Ebay this morning :D
Have been hunting one for a long time. Just not many trucks sold that came off the line with power steering that wasn't also an automatic... Had almost given up and was thinking about going with a Bendix conversion instead even with the drawbacks. Paid $100. Not sure if that's considered a good deal but it was sure worth it to me.
I've already got a saginaw box and just need to come up with a pump, bracket, pulley, etc. Those seem to show up here on on Ebay a lot more often...
Will have to see if there is any info here on doing a saginaw rebuild. How do you know if the one you have needs rebuilt without trying it out first? :?

Congrats on the column find. Good luck on the ps conversion. As far as the box, telltale signs would be leaks and grime on it from bad seals. Turn the input shaft and look for slack. Unfortunately, there are problems that would probably only show upon driving it after the box is installed. I would say if the seals look OK the box is probably in good shape though. I am no expert, but from my experience, this is what I feel safe to tell you. All this is just my :2cents: .

If possible, I'd really like to see some decent hi-res pictures of the engine bay end of that steering column.

The steering box is is covered in oil and grime right now. Was that way when I got it with loose hoses, etc. I just need to clean it up so I can get a good look at it.

Another member here has the brackets and hopefully pulleys that I need so I may get a chance to do an install in the next several weeks. When I get around to it I'll definitely get some pictures for you Keith.
