Windshield Repair

Anyone have any experience with those windshield repair kits that the auto parts stores sell to fix cracks and chips?
The sedan's got a couple of star cracks that have been starting to grow. I figure the windshield's pretty much junk already so it might be a good one to experiment on.

Never used it, but let me know what you think if you give it a try. I need to fix the 71 windshield's rock chip to use in the 72.

I have experimented with some, decent results. You can still tell there is a spot, but for now it hasn't spread in the last two years and I put a lot of miles on my car.

I haven't tried them with anything other then a chip though.

Well i have a kit thats made for the glass industry. This kit cost $300 new i bought from ebay for $35.00. With these you need to make sure you do this inside till you get done then move it outside to cure. The ultraviolet light will harden the liquid resin before it has a chance to do its job. If you have to do this outside cover the area with a dark colored or thick blanket. If you want to do this at night make sure you have a black light to cure it with. I have never tried to fix any thing with cracks longer 3" i always told the customer it was just best to replace it as it was more money in my pocket.

I meant to follow up on this:

I did try it and I wasn't impressed. I had two, (sort of), star cracks. One was sort of a two in one, two points of impact about an 1/8 of an inch apart to make for a pretty nasty series of cracks. The kit made it a little fainter, but it's definitely still very visible.
The second one was a much smaller star crack and I had better success with this one. It's still somewhat visible, but you have to look for it, it's not eye-catching anymore. And what you see now isn't as much crack as before.

Still, it was a 10 dollar kit, I guess I can't expect miracles out of it. Maybe at least it'll slow the spread some.

If the pics are worth a darn I'll post them later, but I don't think glass shots usually come out very good.
