I believe the "XL" stands for "Extra Luxurious" trim, and the "T" on "XLT" designates "Truck". Someone else here may know if that is true or false.

I think that "XL" is the work truck, and the "XLT" is the nicer one :2cents:

Hey seattle67, i'm having a hard time seeing anything "Extra Luxurious" about a XL.
I'd see the XL as, your "extra lucky" it has a seat...

XLT has power locks and windows

XL is old school just like Big Bird 8)

Well, that's what I always thought as a kid. I had an 83 F100 XL that came with power door locks and manual windows. That made no sense to me at all.

acoording to all the pages i have read "xlt" is just a trim designation and has no actual meaning although i'll bet it does mean something on the inside (ford designers). it would be nice if someone did know the real answer.

I should have clarified that one. I meant the 80's and up models. :D

Back in the 60's Xl package on a car was a very desirable package usually including floor shift, bucket seats and full gauges. Now our lucky if it cames with full gauges and a seat that don't brake your back on long trips! :D

Power windows and lock kits are available.
I have the passenger door done. Gonna get a drivers door and do it to that one too. Then swap doors.
