Post by 67 ford f100s rule »

What exactly does it do and what works best for price. Im also looking for filler primer to fix scratches in my bed rails and some tiny dents too.

etching primer actualy has a type of acid in it that ''etches'' it way in to the metal surface that prevents rust.

For your scratches and small dents i suggest this product As long as you have the surface roughed up a bit it will stick excellent. Remember this only does minor imperfections. It mix's just like bondo but sands easier. Just remember also a lil bit if hardener goes a long way in this hot weather this stuff kicks off really fast. To a golf ball size part of putty only use a 1/2" strip of the hardener.

It etches the paint giving i very nice base primer.
When i have a metal section i spray it with etcher then primer filler then sand. And as foghorn said, scuffing it up with sandpaper with help it bond tons more than without.
Im not sure what company would sell etcher for you since i use motomaster and that is canadian but for filler, duplicolour sells it and i have no complaints.

Jeff the filler i linked you to can be applied over primer if you scuff it with180 or 220. Its much easier to see the little dings when it has a color on it. Stand to one side and let the light show it to you then circle it with a sharpie pen so you can find it later. This is how i always did hail jobs. The very first thing i did was this.

If you have a finishmaster close to you call them or call your local auto body supply.
Lots of companies make the same kind of product but i like the evercoat best.

[quote="and some tiny dents too.[/quote]

to pull the tiny dents out use dry ice!! it shrinks the metal and pops the tiny dents out. I used it on some hail damage I received a few years back.
