I found a set of SS Headers that I like and the guy tells me that they won't work for my application. The question I have is - Is there a fitment problem running headers for a car setup on our trucks?
My truck has a 302 w/ cast iron GT40 heads, C-4 Auto, power steering and will have a floor shifter. The headers have a factory ball style collector.

Yes, they are shorties. I guess I just don't see why they would not work if it is going to be a completely custom exhaust.

I just got off the phone with one of the guys where the headers are at. He said that it is a frame clearence problem. After talking a bit, he also stated that with the Cast Iron GT40 Heads, I might need a special header due to exhaust port shape. He is a real nice guy and more than willing to try and find some headers that will work for me and have no clearence problems. I'll keep ya posted.

I am assuming you know there are 2 kinds of Iron GT40 heads, the original and the "p" head.
Original ones should take the same headers as any other...
No need to assume here. I only got them because I stumbled across them while on a vacation in California a few years back. How will I tell the difference? Please go ahead and school me. I am at work for another week before I can get home and check anything on the heads.

The spark plug angle is different on gt40 and gt40p heads. The problem you might encounter is the tubes are almost touching your spark plug boot. Ford racing headers make there headers to clear gt40 heads and I found to be a high quality leak free header on my 95 f150 with gt40p heads swaped on top.

Cool, Thanks. I think they are the GT40 not the GT40P. I think the plugs come out at a more normal angle, but I cannot remember for sure.

Thanks guys.
When I get home I'll be able to take a look. Only 5 more days to go.

I didn't have any trouble finding headers to fit my 71 when it had a 302 in it. There are many header companies selling headers that fit. Only when I went to the 351W did I have trouble
I do know a lot of the shorty headers for cars do not fit the 302 in a truck because of them hitting the power-steering gear

Did you use truck or car headers and what ones did you use?
Thanks, Rich

I was only home for a few days and now I'm back at work, but I did look into identifying the heads and they are the standard GT-40 heads (They only have 3 bars). Now just need to make sure the headers do not have any frame clearance problems. Next month.
Thanks for all the help, Rich

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the headers with the hopes that they would fit. The picture quality stinks, but they look like they will work just fine.
