Inner Fender repair panel question

Post by AK F100 »

Has anyone used the repair panels that replace the top rail that the hinge mounts to? I am having a real hard time coming up with inner fenders that are not rusted out in the hinge area. The cost of new or used gets real expensive once the freight to Alaska gets added and has turned me towards maybe going this route. Any thoughts or experiences are welcome, Thanks.

i havent but you got to figure it should work if you can weld it and grind it to be good with no clearance issues. it should be good if the rest of your inner fender is in solid shape.

I found a pair in the lower 48 for a decent price, he is just going to check on the shipping for me. I found a guy local, but he wants $140-$150 each for straight ones with no rust. Kinda a rip-off. We'll see what happens.

140-150 that is 100 less then the full inners would cost that is a total rip.

I was just trying to be nice. I just kinda said huh..... when he told me he could get me new ones for about $350 ea :bs:. Of course plus freight and he said the freight could be a little expensive. I just laughed to myself and hung up the phone.

That would require being good with metal working and also being good with a welder, neither am I good at.

Not right off hand. I just need to practice on my father-in-laws welder. It's a wire feed of some kind.

:( Looks like the freight on the good used inners is not gonna work out. The guy said that the post office said they were too big and FedEx quoted him $250.00 and UPS quoted him $300.00.

Looks like I might be trying my hand at the welder. I was just hoping to have ones that were not hacked up.

I guess I could ask the local guy if he will give me a better price than $150 ea for solid ones. That price just seems CRAZY.

This guy's name is Jay and his number is in the body of the auction. This one is closed, but he said that he can get good ones about anytime. He was a real nice guy to talk to an took the time to get the shipping quotes long before the auction was over.

If the shipping would have been better, I would buy a pair. Up here in Alaska, it will gost me $300 to buy a good pair out of a salvage yard. :(

Thank you!!

That sounds like a good deal to me. If he can greyhound them for $35 that would be sweet.
