Ran my truck out of gas!
I wanted to see how low my gas guage would go so I would know exactly how far was empty. I put a 2 gallon gas can in back so when it happened I would be prepared. Well, it happened yesterday and it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I put the 2 gallons in and I could not get it to start. I pulled the gas line before the pump and there was no flow. So I used a pump to get the gas flow going and then hooked it back up. Still no luck. I had to spray starting fluid in the carb and after it ran off the fluid, then the gas flow finally made it back to the carb. I thought our stock fuel pumps would pull the gas from the tank even if the flow was broken? I know diesels you have to prime them if ran dry, but is that the case on our trucks?

Hey mrtleavitt...
If you have enough gas in the tank and a good battery, a mechanical pump will eventually pull enough gas to fill the carb.
It is much easier to prime the carb with a little fuel...
mljjones67's idea with the squeeze bottle is really good...

Well that's what I thought. I put about 5 gallons in after the 2 gallons wasn't doing anything and I cranked the engine for a long time and nothing happened. I guess I won't try that again. It sure hurt the ego as my classic was dead on the side of the road. ![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
