Hi Everyone. I recently purchased a 71 F100 with a running straight 6 for $150.00. I am in the middle of swapping my body over to a 79 frame for the power steering, disc brakes etc. I'm looking forward to learning alot of useful information off of this site. Any tips or info in relation to swapping a 351M to a 302, Lowering, Rims & Tires is much appreciated

I'm pretty sure that the frame dimensions are different between the frames so I swap is really a lot of work to make fit right...
You be a lot better off to swap the parts you want off the '79 onto the '71 frame...

The grille on the truck is a '70 grill. Maybe someone swapped inserts into a '71 shell.

The thing about the engine swap is I believe the tranny will be different.
The 79' usually had a C-6 which probably won't bolt-up to the 302.
What engine and tranny is in the bumpside at present?

Welcome from Idaho! Glad you're with us and I hate to but it IS much easier to pull the front suspension, steering, etc. from the '79 and install it onto the bump. I just completed a cab swap recently and although I did have a little fun, it was a major chore. The parts swapping route does not require any body parts removal; however, the power steering upgrade can definitely be easier with the front clip removed. If you do the frame swap, you have to pull two of everything (tons of work!). The frames are almost but not quite identical so there is no benefit from this swap that isn't easier gained by simply swapping only the parts needed for the upgrades you want. In addition to the huge amount of labor involved with a frame swap, the '73-'79 frames are wider at the back end so they require modifications to bolt on a bumpside bed.
BTW, the '79 booster/master cylinder assembly won't work with the '70-'71 pedal assembly without modification. You would be better off getting the booster/MC from a '73-'77. You can still use everything else from the '79 though. My vote is always for a simple bolt on where ever it's possible!
