Canadian truck

Post by F-100Ranger »

The 68 F-100 lwb I'll be finishing (and I will be finishing it) soon is a Canadian build. I didn't think that there would be a difference, but more and more I'm seeing there's enough to matter.

For instance, the color. It's a grass green. The paint charts I see don't show that color. I'm not too sure I want to repaint the whole truck a new color.

Can any of you Canadian members give me an idea where I can access the Canadian colors from that year?

You'll have to get the build specs for your truck to find the original paint code, I once went to an autobody shop to get Highland Green paint for my 68 cougar GT and they told me it didn't exist. I guess they've never seen Bullit  But with an actual paint code it's easy to find.

Need more info about your truck. I'm just guessing here but if it is all green, white grille, 6 cylinder, three on the tree just a standard pickup, then it probably was used by the National Park Service and they do have their own color code. Did it have a plug on the roof cap where a radio antenna used to be?

A 1968 Ford Mercury Canadian version brochure that I have calls it Holly green. You could take it to a good auto paint supplier and have them use a chroma camera I believe it is called to take a picture of the paint up close then it is downloaded into a computer to anylize the paint makeup from which they make the exact paint code for you. This is how body shops are able to get exact matches of paint old or new

Sorry guys, never checked out your good answers. I tried the build sheet, but at the Ford number they said my serial number was not recognized.

No, it's not a 6 cylinder - a Ranger with all the chrome including grill and badges - and one color

What color code do you show on your door data plate? Is your green a metallic color? Does it match the hidden areas on the truck like behind the cluster that wouldn't normally be touched during a repaint?
As for your vin inquiry at Ford, their computers will only recognize the newer (80-up) 17 digit numbers. If you go to ford.ca and click on 'contact Ford' you will find a link to email them directly. When you scroll down the page, the link will be in the last paragraph above the heading 'to mail us a letter'. Tell them you would like a history report on your 19-- Ford pickup, giving the serial number. Don't expect one right away, it took a few months to get mine.

It's the same green color everywhere - up under the dash, firewall, behind the seats etc. I can't check the codes just yet. It will be about the 5th thing I do when I get back from Iraq.

Thanks
