Hood doesn't look right

Post by price2757 »

Comparing my '72 to others in the pictures I noticed that the front of my hood sits higher than others. This is a bad shot but:
Image
When you look at the front so can see the hood latch between the bottom of the hood and the top of the grille. Is this because it has a earlier grille on the '72 or is it a different hood. I'll try to get a better shot later.

hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the whole upper valance and the top of the grill are bent down.
and hoods are the same from 67-72 besides the FORD letter mounting positions and the front chrome piece.

earlier grill (69) on later model (71)

my same truck with its 71 grill:

you can see they sit with about the same gap. so i think youve got a bent grill/valance

I don't know, you can see about as much latch on my truck and I'm fairly positive the valence/grill isn't bent. I think it's just more noticeable because it's painted a light color.Image

i dont know but Price's grill is obviously bent down at the top. you see how there are a bunch of horizontal bars on the grill, you can see the top little horizontal bar looks normal, but the big top part of the grill is bent in so its touching that top little bar. and the valance matches the bend so it must be bent too...

it does seem like the color of it matters too.

well actually i was looking at my truck a few minutes ago and from the angle of the pic it makes the grill look bent. on mine i stood how you took your photo and it looks like the top bar on mine is touching the little bar, but its not even close.

i think your fine :dk:

I think the paint on the latch is drawing attention to it...

Well...after further review, it isn't bent......

but it sure ain't straight !!!!!!!

Look carefully at the small vertical pieces in the top row..shouldn't they be at the same angle as the rows directly below them?

And when you have that straightened out, paint the latch black.

If it were me, i'd paint the latch and ignore the rest.

Hey Price,

Something is certainly wrong there...
You should not be able to see the top of upper valence like that...
it looks like it is tilted forward with the back higher than the front...
That may be an optical illusion, I don't know...
I have a straight '69 grille and valence you might be interested in.
I don't wanna mess with shipping it so it would have to picked up..
I'll make you a good deal on it if yer interested...

i tried to match your camera angle. you can see that in all my pics wich are very similiar angles that you can always see a gap between the top skinny bar and the top of the grill. yours must be bent.
took some close ups of the grill to see what it should be shaped like.

:D
Thanks to all of your for your help, especially Ryan for taking all those shots of his truck for me to compare. The problem isn't the grille but with the area around the hood latch.
Image
It also bows front to back but I couldn't get a shot where you could tell. One more thing on the to-do list when I start taking her apart over the winter. Thanks again and
