im not sure but its a possibility that they did, it looks like they took the pre-made bed then cut the hole and brace to fit the tool box in underneath....

yeah i was thinking Ford would of done a cleaner job, but who is goign to take out there cargo box and look at the bracket? besides people like me 40 years later.
i was thinking that maybe if someone requested a cargo box they would cut the whole and do it all at the dealer, but then again they did a nice job of sinking the toolbox into the bedside if you look at it. doesnt seem they could do that at a dealer.
I believe Ford did it when they fit the under bed box in there. Mine is the same way. A fairly sloppy cut of the brace.
The hole for the filler pipe was done kinda sloppy too. They drilled a pilot hole with a drill, cut most of the circle (oval in my case) out, then folded down the "blank". It's still in tact, folded down inside along the outer bed wall.
My thought is all the styleside beds were built the same way. The mods were done on a separate line as I described.
