Powdercoating vs Por-15
I've been reading quite a bit on both these methods and I was wondering what everyone's opinion here is? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

re: Powdercoating vs Por-15
Big difference will be in cost. POR-15 is relatively inexpensive, and can be applied by you at home. And you don't "have" to start with clean metal. You can go right over rust, although I would suggest metal prep and a good scrubbing.
Powdercoating is very strong, but costs quite a bit more. Plus, it needs to be done by a professional. You can do small parts yourself, in an oven. But the big stuff....$$$$.
But that's just my opinion.

You can also patch the POR, you can't patch Powder.
It always seems I am adding crap to my frame or doing something to it, so that is why I am NOT going to Powder Coat mine.
I am actualy going to use Epoxy Tracktor Paint from TSC. It is cheep and is tough.

re: Powdercoating vs Por-15
I found a product called RustBullet that I'm very pleased with. It doesn't take as much prep as POR-15, and it appears to be a little tougher, too. I've used it on a few rusty areas, and have been very happy. I think it is comparable to POR-15 for cost. Just make sure to follow the instructions to get a good job.

Re: re: Powdercoating vs Por-15
Yep, the frame I got from another member was coated with rust bullet. So far, it seems to be very tough stuff. It's silver, so if you want it black, you have to paint it. So I guess, 71Ford100, there's many alternatives to powdercoating. Just do a little research. POR-15, RustBullet, the tractor stuff, ZeroRust, etc... personally, I'd only powdercoat if I were building a show vehicle.rwilliam99 wrote:I found a product called RustBullet that I'm very pleased with.
