HELP i think i ruined a quart of por15,

Post by 1971ford »

i just opened up a quart of por-15 that i have (i used 1/4 of it before, then resealed it) and now 90% of it is por-15 liquid like normal, the rest is flakes of por-15 and chunks.

did i just waste $40? and how did this happen?

maybe the lid didnt seel all the way because im trying to seal it up right now and the lid wont stay on, i hit on one side of the lid with a hammer and then the other side pops up and it wont seal!

so i have a quart of POR-15 that may be ruined, and i cant even seal it back up. :cuss: :x

Go get a new can from a paint shop and ask them for filters.

Pour your POR15 into the new can via the filter.

Put saran wrap on the surface of the paint after you are done...

Also, from this point forward, pour what you are gonna use into dixie cup and keep the can closed the rest of the time.

hmmm i dont think there are any paint shops around here :(

but good idea, ill close up the can and clamp the lid on it for a good seal and wait until my dad can take me to get a new can (tomorrow probably) and filter it in

i have been using plastic bags between the lid/can

Pour the POR ;) into a Tupperware dish (the kind with the snap-on lids) through a piece of screen-door screen to filter out the chunks, and make sure you still use the Saran Wrap between the lid and the dish.

Since the stuff you have now has set up a little bit, don't use it anywhere you don't want to see brush strokes. Since it's a little more gelled, it's not going to lay down smooth, unless you thin it back out.

Uhh... I think you missed something....

Put the Saran wrap directly on the paint, and then up to the top/lip.

The less air in contact with the paint the better... otherwise it will gel and harden.

jmho.

heres how i've been doing it:

can on bottom
then a sandwhich baggie
then the lid.
then 2 carpenter clamps to ensure the lid is not leaking air
