Crewcab body style code

Post by willowbilly3 »

What body style code does your crewcab have? My 69 has 81 which is conventional cab. Not ruling out the tag might not be original but I see nothing to suspect it was changed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't i read somewhere that all the old crews cabs started life as a standard cab and were custom built by Ford into crew cabs?

That's correct, and it's a hack job too
They just cut a reg cab in two and welded in some plates.
So a crew VIN will not be any different then a reg cab VIN

So legget and platt built my crew? or did they buy up crown? that page was so tiny.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

A couple years ago there was a 6 door dentside crew on ebay and it didn't sell. It was in a junkyard in Wyoming somewhere.
I really would like to find pictures and know the process. Some of it is a real hack lob but I can not see where the frame was extended although it does have an extra plate down the outsides. Also I don't think it was quite as simple as whack a regular pickup, think about it, there were no other shortbed F-250s and the back of the frame is stock, it has not been cut off. I do know they cost over double what a standard cab cost.
As many of them as there are still around that crown place must have been a big operation, there must be some sort of archival pics left somewhere.
