How do I get inside here??
okay I am going to have to find a picture or take one myself, but for now I will try to describe it... this is from a 69 F250 custom cab.
The base of the windsheild... where the wipers come out is a grated piece that goes across the full width of the truck. I need to get inside this grate, but I see no bolts, no slides, it appears as if it is just a grated piece of the cab itself.
However, because of where my truck came from I have "things" growing in there.. trees, shrubbery, strawberries.. potatoes, maybe some miniature horses, I am not sure.
I desperatley want to clean this out but I can't get in there!
Help!

I believe the only way in is the plug in the front/center. There are drain that exit down low but nothing you'd be able to get into. Best bet would probably just shoot in there with a pressure washer and try to break the junk up. Once you find where it drains at the bottom, make a hook with a wire coat hanger and go in fishing for what ever you pull out..
Get it cleaned real good or the floor of the cowl will rot like the old Mustangs..
If all else fails, find some miniature cowboy's to ride the miniature horses. They could drag the stuff to the hole where you could reach it.

I've got a similar problem, I'm trying to decide how I will deal with the rust that is already in there.... appears to be surface rust for the moment.....
Any suggestions? What did everyone else do that's restored their cab do?

Fish Oil ... I have just hosed out the same area and lathered it in fish oil. Spray it in there ... the excess will run off ... and it will firm up to a sticky yuk that will stop any rust from progressing and prevent further rust.mrsnicks wrote:I've got a similar problem, I'm trying to decide how I will deal with the rust that is already in there.... appears to be surface rust for the moment.....

This thread has an image that shows where the drains are at the bottom of the cowl.
If you do insert a hose through the oval hole and try to flush it out, you may have to use a screwdriver or something to clear the drains out.
Thanks to 69rangerman for the images http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... cowl+drain

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Yeah, that's where you'll get your best bang for buck in reaching is removing the cab vents at both sides lower inner cab. To remove the pass, you have to disconnect from heater box and to remove driver, you have to remove emergency brake handle. Once you get those vents out of the way you have plenty of room to reach in there and hunt snakes!

If you think something is living in there you might try this.Use a blow gun and gently force a steady stream of air thru the cowl vent.
My brother is rebuilding a mid 70s Chebby 4x4.My dad was looking it over and heard something move in the cowl.Dad came up with the air hose idea. After about 5 minutes of the air hose treatment the occupant of the cowl decided to leave.Good thing Dad thought about it before trying to reach in.The occupant was a Copperhead snake.
