Front disc change over

Post by 1971fordsdad »

What all am I going to have to grab if I find a front disc brake setup at the junkyard? This will be for converting Ryan's '69 F100 from front drum to disc. I am guessing, knuckles, calipers, hubs, rotors, master cylinder, proportioning valve. Do I need to swap out the power booster? Brake lines? Anything else I am not thinking of? I did this once to a '65 Malibu SS that I used to have and loved the improvement, especially when slowing down from 110mph at the drags!

I-beams.
Here in the northeast I would say just do new brake lines but after seeing what a real CA truck looks like you probably could use old ones off another truck...

Ryan, I think you are just going to have to wait until you turn 16 and the junkyard lets you in. I really don't feel like doing this alone. I like you, but man, that sounds like work.

I have this image of Ryan and his Dad, sitting at computers next to each other, and using the forums to communicate.

ok. fine with me.
you're the one that will be driving it towing a trailer with another bump on it for a long ways drive to and from a location, up and down mountains which will be snowed on and possibly ice making disc brakes handy dandy, across valleys and through deserts, and helping me when replacing pads wishing it had stinkin' disk brakes to make the job alot easier, and making my vehicle more safe for when i drive it....

but if you want to wait... go ahead

uh-oh, what did i just get my self into lol
i can hear it now.. dad: "no one said i HAVE to drive you"
