FE with power steering

Post by OLE69F100 »

I just read the adding power steering tutorial and was total bummed to find out that I could not run headers on my 69' with the factory power steering and the bendix box :x are there no headers that will work? I guess I should also ask if you can use headers with a 302 or a 460 with the bendix box. I don't want to spend the money on a new steering set up when I already have one.

Hey Ole'69...

I am pretty sure you can run hedders on yer 390 w/PS.
My brother, TheeMc, put Hedmans on his '72 CS w/390 and PS...
I have seen several rigs with both...
Maybe it was a particular brand hedders or something.
I know they say that you can't put hedders on a '68 CS either...
But mine had them on it for the past 20 years...
I recently went back to stock manifolds, simply becaseu I had a nearly brand new stock style performance exhaust system on the '71 CS I parted out...
I just did the PS upgrade on my '68 CS... it's well worth the effort.

Ya, I don't know where you got that info but my brother has a saginaw setup and headman headders, and I run the saginaw with some hooker headders we haven't had a single problem with our power steering with our 390s

Saginaw box you can run headers. Bendix cannot. Try these:

the top three models.

I'm not a guru so take it for what it's worth, but the 1969 that I bought last summer has a 390 with headers and a Bendix PS box. Unfortunately, the PS gearbox has a massive leak, but it has a tag on it stating it was rebuilt in June of 2006. I suspect that the additional heat from the headers caused the premature blowout of the PS box. The headers are probably about 15 years old, so maybe that brand/style is no longer available.

Just my two cents...
