door panel painting question

Post by SteveC »

Ok i thought as long as i have the door panels pulled off to insulate i have been toying with the idea of painting them black to match the theme i was gonna do with the interior.. IE.. black seat, carpet ,and then just the door panels painted black.
Do you think that would look good..i know that a lot of this stuff is individual but just thought i would get some imput.

sorry for the poor picture quality

And on the same note What is the best way to insulate inside the doors so that moisture doesn't get trapped behind it and rust out the inside of the door??

thanks for the imput

That would look ok.

the best is to clean the factory drain holes at the bottom of the door, new seal/anti rattle kits if yours are worn or drying out bad.

and with insulation perhaps that stuff used to sound deadened the floor?

also for anti rust i think some havepor-15n'd or have talked about por-15'in them.

por 15 is a idea but wouldnt after the stuff dries nothing sticks to it so wouldnt the sticky part of the insulation not stick?? or would i have to por 15 it and then quickly put to stuff inside it...

and i looked down inside the door with the panel off and the drains are all clean and the anit ratle kits are a little old but not brittle...surpisingly even the cab and front radiator support rubber mounts are still even rubbery not hard or cracked at all

but hmm maybe use some good sealer around the whole outside of the insulating stuff and that would do it.. what i was gonna use is this stuff from page 79 on lmc http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/FB/full.aspx?Page=79

it is the rolled stuff on top and i was also gonna use it to do the roof above the headliner ..

sorry for rambling jsut to many ideas at once to think about

i think its paint won't stick, but perhaps tape and sticky glue too. so if its also true for glue not sticking to dried por 15 then you'd would need to let it get tacky a bit then stuff in the stuff you wanna use.

im going to say leave it...

since it would be hard to match the color for a repaint to change back to factory. and since the seat color is just a black cover, over a nice green seat.

i say leave it be

ORRRRRRR.......
can you get another pair of panels and paint THEM black? so you can always swap back to original?

Ryan that is a very good idea...didnt think of that route..that way i could always go back it i didnt like it after wards....or ive seen the abs plastic ones from nod and lmc maybe i could try those out if they dont fit really poorly...cause i am also gonna put the plastic headliner in so i can add a cd player and keep the factory original radio in place and workable...and also modifiy the plastic one to breathe like the original ones do...
SO many ideas not enough money

thanks again...

Hey 427 BlackPearl. The seat of your truck looks nice and comfy but where's the horn button on the steering wheel?

Man, that looks good 427! I like the red on black. I was thinking about adding more red inside my '69 to compliment the red wheels so I may have to try that. I've got an extra pair too! I went with gloss black for now on top of the satin black that's on the rest of my truck. The dash is also gloss black.
And SteveC, I think I like them as is. But it's kind of hard to tell without seeing it.

What I've noticed from years of playing with them is that Ford's black almost always has some metal flake in the paint and it's not a true 'black' more a mix of all the left over colors to give it almost a muddy black with really fine metal flake. I redid my spare panels and steering column in duplicolors black with really fine flake so they'll match each other. They turns out really nice with the trim ring as well. I don't think I have any pics though and they are stowed away down in the shed.

Hit the Mustang shops and ask for the 69 Dash black.... it has the correct metal flake in it and would be perfect if you are trying to match.... BTW, they have all the other interior colors with the correct metal flake in it too.

Hey F100builder, That satin paint looks killer. I am going to do somthing similar with a dark charcoal grey, tinted windows and polished aluminum wheels. Can you post some full pics of the truck or you can e-mail them if you want, akcountry@hotmail.com.
