Vacuum Booster Question

Post by smclaren »

Hi Guys

Looking at hooking up a vacuum power booster for my drum brakes.

Can anyone make a recommendation or refer to a Ford part number for the booster I need ???

I know you can buy them in the States (reconditioned) as per Dan's (Seattle67) excellent guide to installing a booster, but I want see if I can find one locally in Australia that would suit.

So a Ford part number, or maybe even a model and year off a suitable donor vehicle would be very helpful.

The shop manual just refers to a generic "Bendix Single Diaphram Dash Mounted Booster", no part numbers or other specs are given.

Thanks Guys

Steve,

Here is what I do to find what stuff fits what...

I go to Parts America online and do a search for the part I'm looking for (69 power brake) http://www.partsamerica.com/productdeta ... 50&PTSet=A then if you look in the "for your vehicle" box you will see another link for "See all vehicles this product fits" click on it and it will show what all vehicles this part came on. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductGuid ... ber=503515 It gets you pretty close on everything...
For this particular one it only shows the trucks 68-75 :o

Hope this helps some...

Thanks as usual for your help, Thunder.

I did this "other vehicles" search before I posted (I used Seattle67's link) but it only showed other bumpsides which doesnt help me unfortunately.

I was hoping to find something like a Falcon or Fairlaine that used the same booster and try and find one of those models in a wreckers yard.

Just a question Thunder, did the 73-79 dentsides come with boosters, and do you reckon they would fit ? I know the 73-79 in Australia pretty much all shipped with disc brakes, but I am unsure if they had boosters too.? If they do fit, I should be able to track one of those guys down without too much drama.

Cheers

Dentside boosters will work, but some need modifications. If you go to the homepage, Keith has put alot of info up on this. Fairlane boosters are alot smaller diameter than trucks BTW, so I'm not sure about them. I'm using one from a '77, but I'm also using the pedal (again, with some slight modification).

Thanks Thunder and 69Bump,

Just to re-cap (and beat firmly into my small pea-shaped brain) I can use a Booster from 73-77, fits straight in and I can maintain my 69 pedal. I must also maintain my Master Cylinder becasuse its drum/drum, where the 73-77 is Disc / drum. Yes ?

Also, 78-79 Booster and Pedal wont fit, and let no-one speak of the 67? :x

Am I reading it right ?

Thanks again
