Well, I tried to find a good bumpside crew cab, but ended up with a '77 F-250 in pretty good original shape. A few dings and wrinkles in the body, but otherwise pretty nice (VERY clean interior - an original owner crew cab).
I'm trying to figure out a good way to unlock the rear doors. They are clearly cut down from front doors, so the lock plunger is to the rear just like the front doors - and a b**ch to reach. I'd like to make unlocking them easier.
Idea 1: Install power locks. What did they have for crew cabs in '77 for this, or is there a modern retrofit?
Idea 2: Install outside locks in the two rear doors so that I can unlock them from the outside. Except for the missing cylinder hole, this looks like it should work pretty easily (and CHEAPLY).
Any ideas on either plan?

Cold try looking into a setup that unlocks the doors when you open the handle from the inside? The simplest way might be to install a key lock to open from the outside. You could look at JC Whitney they have some decent priced universal kits for power locks. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

FYI - Hey, I finally figured out my rear door lock dilemma. The rear door locks are *almost* identical to the fronts, except they are designed so that the door cannot be opened from the inside when the lock plunger is depressed - this is clearly a kid safety feature. Out of pure necessity, I ended up using a front door lock on the rear door (perfect fit - you also need to grab the outside door handle rod from the donor door, it's slightly shorter than the rear door rod). Now all I have to do to unlock the rear door is to reach over the seat and pull the interior release handle - the lock plunger pops up and the door opens beautifully.
Lost a little bit of kid safety in the back, but solved a major problem with rear crew cab access, just by using stock parts that cost me $5 at the wrecking yard. Next chance I get I'll do the other rear door the same way.
