Powersteering fluid capacity and type, opinions and advice?

Post by cdherman »

From a 1978, Ford saginaw box, same year PS pump.

I know Ford would have recomended Type F ATF and barring suggestions that sound better, that is what I will probably use.

Any idea how many quarts I need?
65 f-100 SWB, 240 I6, T-18, now swapped to C4 with difficulty. Yeah, I know. Its a 67-72 site. But my frame and entire drive train are just like yours!!!!

if it was me, and a new sytem...Royal Purple Synthetic. Be aware, it this is used pump/box combo, you will find any leaks. If you don't want to use synthetic fluid,or it IS a used system Valvoline Max life fluid is good quality stuff. i'd get 2 quarts just to start with. Remember to take the wheel almost lock to lock (slowly) 5-10 times, to bleed the air out of it.

just my :2cents:
As a metter of fact, i AM trying to keep up with the Jones'

I've used any kinda power steering fluid or ATF in mine, but it leaks so bad anyhow it couldn't possibly matter.
