any good locking gas caps available?

Post by pollock »

Is there a such thing as a good locking gas cap? I've gone through two black plastic ones from the parts store and the rubber boot on them rots out in months.

Are the ones in NPD or LMC any good? Are they available in chrome from anywhere?

Are they supposed to be "vented" or not?

i dont think there is a such thing as a "good" locking gas cap. they can all be pried off with bare hands IMO. however i am going to use one on the 69, because they might not stay on very well and can be pried off,,, but they make the neighbors car a better target when they see that IT doesnt have a locking gas cap and they can save some time with the Other car.
i hate to do that and have my neighbors car robbed.... but really..
my truck or theres? ill keep my well payed for gas :D

i have the same problem all the ones i find are the kind that just push on and dont seal well enough to keep to anything out.

I cant for the life of me find a locking gas cap that twists on and locks

I had one on my truck for ten years, never had a problem with it. Made of metal and everything. IF I ever get back up north to my storage, I'll look for it and bring it back down for ya.

cool im running off of the aux tank for the most part...if some one can get there hose to make all the bends that the 67-69 aux under bed tank has then they derserve some of the gas. The behind tank isnt getting used at the molment and that is the one i want the locking cap for.

Since i most want a locking cap after i rebuild the the engine this fall

Hmm. That ad says it fits 51-70. I wonder why that wouldn't work on a 71?

i think in 71 they went to the closed system with a non venting cap and that had a wider mouth or smaller cant remember filler hole and the caps dont interchange

Incidentally, I had some punks stealing my gas out of my truck while it was parked in the driveway so
I got me a wireless, infra-red motion dectector driveway alarm that sounds a chime in my room at night when someone walks up my driveway(about $100). They cannot hear it from outside. They haven't been back yet but when they do I'm going to sneak out the side gate and fix their legs for 'em.
