Gas tanks

I was cleanin up in the yard today and found an old Jeep CJ-5 gas tank. Not very big (the kind that is under the drivers seat) and decided to test to see if it would fit as a behind the axle tank in my parts bump (bare frame). It almost does. there's planty of room side to side, but the rear crossmember would have to be moved back about 2-1/2 inches is this feasable? Or should I try to find something that fits better?

Are you adding a second tank or getting it out of the cab? Or is the one in the cab Bad? Reason I ask is I've got 3 in cab tanks. I switched to frame tank,but stole it out of a CS and it was a direct swap of parts. Almost any Fabrication is possible,but is it worth the time and trouble for the gain---just my

I would say that all you have to do is grind the heads off the rivets and move to where you want it and drill and bolt it in no problem.

From what I've heard, the tank from a B2 will work. Was told it was a good candidate as it fits in the frame no problem. Just strap it in.

Kinda hard to imagine the tank from that fitting in your frame rails, though.

Yeah you can move the crossmember to make it fit. I put a fuel tank from a 2003 ranger into my bump. I had to do a great deal of modification to one of the crossmembers t make it fit, I spent the better part of a day making it work. I guess it all depends if its worth it to you or not.
