I Need Wheels!

Post by SMF Speed&Custom »

Well I am new here and looks like a great site you guys have here! I have a 1966 Ford F100 with a 76 F100 front end with disk brakes on it. I am only 17 and dont have any help around where I live so came on here to ask this.
I went to the wheel shop today to get American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels with the custom 5X5.5 lug pattern. They have that but only problem is the guy said my hub probably wont work because it's too big I guess? The hub sticks out about 2 or 2 1/2 inches from the wheel now and then is almost 3 1/2 inches in diameter or a bit smaller. Does anyone know any info on this? He said I would need wheels that have that push throw center cap that is all big and looks like a off road wheel and I do not really like that at all and plus I can't find any good looking wheels with that. I am pretty set on a few other wheels like the Torq Thrusts or maybe a couple other ones I have in mind but they dont have that Center that I need the guy said...
Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated! I like a 5 spoke look maybe or a old school kinda rim without all that new crazy looking crap they do with wheels today if you know what I mean.

Thanks a lot!

Does he have some wheels that you could test fit? I seem to remember that the Torque Thrust II wheels will fit but the older Torque Thrusts won't and that was because of the disc brakes.

See those are what I want but all polished. Man oh man.... If I cant get those then I am going to just put those on my 48 Chevy coupe that I am building from the frame up as well. What kind of caps are on those ones there? Right now I am looking at the Centerline Telstars and the Cragar Street Star wheel but the centercap isn't like he said it should be. Is that hub on that truck big like I explained mine?

Thanks a lot for the info!

Oh forgot to add..... I am liking the Hopster from American Racing as well but has the same center section as ther Torq Thrust II.

Boy I'm just going by memory so bear with me. That pic was taken a couple years ago at the F100 Nats and it had drum brakes. Don't know the difference in hub size between the drums and your '76 discs. Now that you mention it, the '67 F100 had smaller drum brakes than the '68 and up so maybe that's why they work on that truck. :hmm:

I do know of another person who did what you are trying to do. He has a '69 F100 in which he put '76 discs up front but with a twist. He used rotors off a '72 LTD which have the 5x5 bolt pattern and redrilled the rear axles for 5x5. Then he ran Torque Thrust II's, 16x7 fronts and 16x8 rears, looks real sharp!

I appreciate the help! I just bought all new rotors and all so no money left anymore to do that change unfortunately. I may just buy some wheels even if I don't care for them too much and just drive the truck. I was wanting to fix it up a lot such as slam it, nice wheels and tires, good suspension, fix the motor up, and basically make it a great handling everyday driver than can smoke some ricers and those darn Mustangs that I do not care for around here lol. Looks like that is outta the question. I like both Ford and Chevy though and before I bought this Ford I never had one and never talked trash on Ford though but never cared to look into them. Now that I have one I like the fact how they are built strong and are a good working truck, etc but for the fact of hot rodding them up (the slicks and twin I Beam trucks) I don't care for. I guess I will build my 48 Chevy coupe with the American Torq Thrust 11's, etc and have that as my nice hot rod and this thing as my everyday plain truck.
I do wish someone had the hook ups to get in tact with a suspension company to start making dropped spindles though... If I had the money, machines and knowlegde I would have came up with a design... But I have NO CLUE on how to use programs such as CAD and whatever else there is out there.

Thanks again!

So the American Racing Hopster you have works? I actually would like to just put the Torq Thrusts on my 48 coupe and then the Hopsters on my truck. Now is your hub like mine that I described? If you have any pics of the hub without the cap or something then it would be great... Here is a pic of mine, I am hoping you can see the hub, it may be too small. But the hub sticks out 2 1/2 inches WITHOUT the cap to cover over it to cover the greased bearings. Is yours like this???

Thanks a ton! I will tell the guy at the shop tomarrow just order the Hopster even though he keeps saying it wont work.

American also list a Salt Flat Special to fit these trucks.

American has an online fitment guide:

http://www.americanracing.com/appguide/ ... ar=405_4x4

Note it says 2 wheel drive 4x4 :hmm:

Thanks for the info. I did that already and made sure and Emailed American racing. They told me even though it shows it on there that it most likely isn't supposed to work. Oh well, I am going to bring my hub down to the wheel shop and get one of their 15 inch hopsters and if it fits then I am ordering 16X7 Hopsters in front and 17X8 in rear to fill up the wheel wells more to give it the apprearance that it's lowered.

Also I would throw those salt flat ones on a roadster if I had one, I like em. :D
