Post by fourtss »

I bought a set of new brake shoes for the boys 90 4x4, use to be the brakes were two different sizes (back axle) large shoe for the front side small one for the back, this set I bought the shoes were all the same size (small shoes) anyone come across this before, or did I get a set that wasn't right? :dk:
I bought the set from auto zone

I'd be suspicious of the wrong parts. One shoe per set should be bigger.

81 F-100 Long Box 2wd

302/auto couldn't go wrong for $500

Just an FYI the small shoe goes to the front side, and yes they are supposed to be different sizes. sounds like they got you the wrong ones. Or they are miss boxed.

Here is a DIY......

I don't think fourtss is talking about primary/secondary shoe per wheel, he's asking if the rear axle should have smaller brakes than the front. I've seen what he's talking about, but I don't think that's the rule.

Also, I have seen replacement shoes that do not have the shorter material on the primary side, all 4 shoes are the same side. Don't know how they did with without grabbing, but they don't.

well lets see, I'm talkin bout the rear axle, the primary shoe versus the secondary shoe, use to be they were different sizes, the shoes I got were all the small shoes, so I don't know if the manufacture got it wrong or if they changed the format and say you don't need two different size shoes on a wheel anymore,at any rate I think I have my problem solved, best I can figure the drum is warped so I'm replacin that today, so hopefully this will correct the problem :dk: cause I'm tired of :hw:

Like I said, I have seen replacement linings that were all the same length. But so far they all have been the longer linings like the original secondaries. Never seen them all being short yet though.
I'd just take a look at another set, if they're the same I wouldn't worry about it.

well now they couild have a batch of wrong ones there too.

autozone.com shows(providing this is an f150) a set with shorter material pads and the two normal length pads. is the same for 2wd and all three engine sizes.

if itys a baby ranger(as i call them) it show diff part but same idea one each side of axle short material and one long material. i bet someone at the manafacturer boxec two small ones together.
