What is what with a 73-79 disc brake proportioning valve?

Post by mrtleavitt »

I'm in the middle of a disc brake swap. Everything is dissasembled so I'm not sure which line goes where. I've tried to line everything up but I'm still unsure. The proportion valve is from a '75 F150 5-lug disc brake setup. There are 5 holes in the valve, which is which?

I just finished the swap on mine.Sorry no pic but I'll describe it as best I can.Hold the valve with the electrical connecter straight up.One end will have a port with a larger fitting than any of the others. This one goes to the rear brakes. On the opposite end there are 2 angled ports. These are for the front brakes. The remaining ports are for the lines from the master cylinder. The port nearest the angled ones is for the front brakes. The remaining port is for the rears. On the master cylinder the port on the large compartment is for the front brakes. The one from the small compartment is for the rears.I hope this is understandable. :) I will try to post a pic later today.

That'd be great! Thanks! You suppose it matters which port is which as far as left and right fronts?

Well, I'd forgotten that I left most of the lines in and just cut them at the wrecking yard. The bracket is bolted to the PS box with the REAR brake port facing to the rear. It looks to me like the two coiled lines "swap" ends as they reach the master cylinder. However, the two front lines are still in question. I actually have the two front brake lines somewhere which would probably show which was which. I cut them right at the prop.-side fitting because the wrench was slipping and rounding them off and I didn't have a proper tool for removing them at the yard.
