Removing 69 grill

Post by 69rangerman »

Well, why I'm waiting for the fender to come back I might as well get the grill off and polish it.

I can see a few bolts but was wondering if you guys could tell me where the all are?

Do I have to remove anything else first in order to get the grill off?

Thanks

Hey 69Rangerman

There should be 3 bolts that attach each side to the fender in the wheel well and one under each headlight door..
There should be one in the center and two the come from the top..
It's easier I think to take the valence off with the grille... there should be two bolts on each side that bolt the valence to the radiator support...
you'll need to unplug the headlights and parking lights... and it should come off in one piece..

you will have four on each side under the fender and two inside the grill in the lower front. and then the upper valance has to be taken off with the grill so you can ge tto the other bolts holding the valance on. the valance has three bolts on top on each side.

maybe my bolt count is off... I've never been to good at math... :D

just a suggestion.. you might wanna have a sawzall handy...

I have removed 5 of these grilles in the past couple of years...
all but one has tore out at least one of the tabs that hold the u-nuts.
The worst ones are the ones at the bottom of each side...
the bolts rust in the u-nuts and can be hard to get out...
the sawzall can cut the ones on each side...
you can get the u-nuts at just about any hardware for about $.50 each.
When I put my grille back on, I used anti-sieze lube on the bolts to prevent that from happening in the future..

Thanks guys. Sounds like I'd better PB them for a few days and then try.
