Whats a good price for doing a repaint on a 69 F-100 AND NOT DOING THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK OR THE INSIDE OF THE BED, And does anyone know some one in Ocala Florida thats willing to paint it,Seem no one wants to do a paint job anymore. Danno

I did a lot a the body work mostly on the bed and doors the cab still needs to be sanded and not much more body work to be done, the inside of the truck is already been done and the inside of the bed I want to put a spray in liner in it,They want around 4000.-5000. dollars down here to paint it,All they want is to do the easy money jobs,

4000-5000 doesnt sound bad for a nice paint job. allthough it depends how nice, and what kind of paintjob are you having done? single stage? base coat + clear coat?

If your truck is completely prepped, ALL body work done, sanded & ready to squirt, then yeah, 4-5k sounds a little high.

If all you want is color, take it to Maaco.

I agree...4-5K is a lot. I know everyhting is relative to what you want, but I have never, ever wanted a 4-5K paint job. I just don't see it.

Sure, professionals need to get paid what they deserve...but I'll leave that to the folks who have 4-5K for a paint job. I never will have that, mainly because i wouldn't pay that price.

The three places I went to get a price thats what they wanted for them to paint it,(But they didn't want to do it at that price)Has anyone had a Macco paint job done and how did the paint hold up.

there is a maaco paintjob on my bump (i didnt do it, the PO did). it is horrible. its peeling and all and there not even that good at taping everything up.

i would have maaco spray my project truck if they would let me give them the paint supplies. but they only use their own paint wich sucks(what i hear alot).

I hear you on the no one wanting to paint the truck. It seams like no one is willing to earn a dollar anymore. And if they will do the work it is some sort of crazy price. I walked into a place, and told the people what I had, after I did my cab swap, almost a perfect body. Basically people looked at me like A, I couldn't afford it, which really burns me up, or B, when I said 71 F100, I didn't even get to finish before they where like nope. I have come to the conclusion that hardly anyone cares about a job well done, for a decent price. It is all about using the crapiest stuff, to get the job done. Just my two cents on this one!!!

Honestly if you can paint a wall with an airless, then you could more than likely paint your own truck.

you can make a spray boot outa tarps and pvc pipes or out of ply wood and 2x4's.

do the prep needed and go to painting.

thing with macco is if they will do their 1-2k paint on it only way it will hold is if you prep your self.

They don't prep is what i hear.

If you go into a paint & body shop asking about a complete paint job, and immedeatly start in on price, yeah, no one is gonna want to do it. I've seen too many vehicles that were "ready for paint" and "had all of the bodywork done" Guess again.

I've said it before , on this & many other forums.
You want a nice paint job. You have a painter, standing in a 10k downdraft booth, with at least 1 400 dollar paint gun in his hand.Another one hanging on the rack. Decent primer/sealer is 150 a gallon, some paint (reds) can run north of 200 a gallon. Add in all the different hardners, activators, etc. Don't forget about paper, tape, tack rags & all the little things that add up ever so quickly.

Now check the truck. unless it's done by a professional, or someone that really does know what they are doing, it's gonna need prep work...8-10 hours at least.
Now we're ready to push the truck into the booth.
Prime/seal, dry overnight
Next day paint.

Now tell me where 3-4k for paint is so far off.

As far as Maaco....well, it depends. If the paint guy actually knows what he's doing & you do most of the prep, it can be allright. Sand the truck, scotchbrite pads as close to the trim (if you're not going to remove it) as possible, remove whatever you can to allow the best coverage possible The better the prep, the better the paint will be. Talk to the manager, as well as the painter.Let them now what you expect & how you can bring the truck in. If everyone knows, going in, what is expected, things seem to work out a lot better

FWIW...i've started to add up what it's gonna cost,just in material to paint my shortbox..



but it's gonna be pretty

i used to work at maaco, if you use their crappy paint you will get a crappy job, do all the prep work and masking yourself, make sure it is clean yourself, then get the most expensive job they have a base clear, it will hold up just fine, the paint from maaco isnt bad, its actually pretty good, its dupont, its the body, masking, and prep work they skimp on, if your paint from maaco is peeling, its not the paints or the painters fault, its the prep work.

AS far as 3-4000 dollars for the paint job is not what Im talking about,They just flat said they didn't want to do it cause they can make more money doing insurance jobs and to do a repaint takes to long to do.I understand about the body work and prep work what looks good for me may not suite the painter.But I will find someone who needs some money!!!
