Could the cab be shifting?

Post by 69twotone »

Hi guys

I would love your thoughts on this. I noticed tonight that my passenger side door is harder to shut. I began to look closely at the body lines. I have never noticed this before but the top of the fender on the drivers side is exposed about an inch before it reaches the hood. On the passenger side it is exposed about a 1/4 inch or less. The cab seems to stick out a little more on the drivers side and seems tucked on the passenger side.

So here is the question could the cab be shifting and if it was would it affect the way the hood lines up with the fenders.

Or do I have a bent frame and I have just never noticed this?

or maybe your body panels are just now "shimmed" well?
it could effect the hood/fender spacing, because the inner fender bolts to the cab, the hood bolts to the inner fender. but the fenders bolt to the inner fenders so i dont know.
cab bushings could be bad i suppose.

Do you know if its been hit before? I just crawled under mine the other day, and noticed drivers side washer under bushing is shot! It is rusty as he!! & looks like a cupcake paper upside down  But i know mine was hit pretty good (bad) where cab meets the bed, but still seems to line up well. It will only take like 2 minutes to look aqt the cab mount bushings.

I'd take a good look at your front cab mount and bushings. If either/both are rotted out, the cab will drop down, taking the fender with it.

Could it pull the fender to the right or left on the horizontal axis. Vertically the fender lines up with the hood on both sides. On the horizontal axis the cab sticks out further on the side (drivers) that the fender does. The cab is indented on the passenger side.

I will check the bushings and mounts tonight. It just seems weird for it to shift left to right. I could see that it is definietely the cab if it was shiftin up or down.

a bad or loose cab mount could move that stuff either way up down or left and right.

Thanks guys, I wanted to ask prior to buying the cab and bed that I have lined up. I am excited and plan to start restoration the first week of May. I called the P.O. today and he said the frame is not bent. Between that and all of your responses I am going to move forward. I now have all of the parts I need to get started. So here goes. Will keep you posted as I move forward.

i had a truck with that same problem and my current f100 has the bed sticking out further on the passengers then the drivers.

Was wondering if shops regularly removed beds to install shocks or rear ends or drive lines? then just bolted them back and called it good?
