what to do with the floorpans

Post by itsmy72f100 »

heres my pans are they salvagable I can get stamped steel pans for 50 apiece new. I need your thoughts and suggestions on this.

drivers side I think it is too far gone the rust line goes a little over the seat hump but not through except a quarter sized hole
Image

Now Imagine the cab mounts they are just as bad a the drivers side pan.
What would the labor on this cost both pans both mounts and drivers side of the cab brace? I got a restore guy that says 400 bones and he is GOOD he restores el caminoes that he sells for 20k+

Passenger side might be OK but cant be sure

I would hit them with a wire brush on a grinder and see what the bare metal looks like. I can not tell if that is a long crack on the passenger side or not.

That passenger side is going to get longer as you brush it, i'll post a pic of mine tomorrow. It was in about the same shape, my drivers side was worse, except no rust on the tunnel. I patched it with thin sheet metal for time being with rivets. Its not pretty but it keeps the wind down  & lets the heat work.
Incidentally have you replaced you wiper transmission gaskets? That is where my water was coming from, getting trapped under the rubber flooring.
You can check by running the hose on them for several minutes, or sit in it in the next big rain you get :D

i would cut it all out but in squares. that would make it easier to cut peaces out to weld in.

I did not see that that was daylight on the drivers side the other night you may need to replace/patch that one.

I took apart the inside of the cab(seat was already out) while it was raining untill I found the leak it was the gaskets(Pain in the but to change).heres a good pic of it

and of how much it was bottom left pass side

Image

I replaced the gaskets and I think Ill buy the stamped steel pans for both sides and use the good parts of the old pans for patches on the rest.

itsmy72,

Good postin' man!

I've got the same floorpans on the Ranchero. :(

I think you've hit the nail on the head as far as my leak is concerned.

I got delayed on fixing this problem I bought a 71 with the 500 bucks I was going to use to have the work done. The 71 runs and drives FAST but it takes a mile to stop from 60 lol. To bad the pans are rusted on that one too.

lol the WORST rust on my whole truck, is some surface rust on the floor pans, not anywhere near making it through the metal.
