I’m happy to have found this thread and I want to get it going again.
I have been looking at my truck and have some ideas. Possibilities are, use hinges from something else that don’t go into the door, or cut the hinge back I think I can still use two out of the three bolts (the two that are stacked on top of each other) and maybe add extra support out side the door where the hinge goes into the door. Or more radical option would be to suicide the doors.
Vintage glass in GA. http://www.vintageglass.com offers a kit that includes the 2 one piece glass with several tint options, both door glass felts, dew felts, and front guide bar and a power window kit that contains all hardware, switches, and complete wiring harness for around $500.
Please don’t turn this post into, as mentioned earlier, a debate or thread about how wonderful the window vents are and “why would you get rid of themâ€

re: shaving vent windows
I love my vents
However that being said, i think i like the idea of using the later model style mirror to act as front channel.
of course like was said if you suicide the doors that would fix the hinge issue. I don't personally think the suicide would fit these trucks, but i haven't seen one in person either, so it could be i just can't wrap my mind around it.
I am curious if he ever figured his out though

I considered that but later style trucks have more slope to the windshields allowing a smaller triangle in the corner. to do that on my truck I would end up just replacing the whole window vent with a piece of metal and that's not quite the look I'm going for.
