ryan that would work if they were just out of adjustment but his drop when he opens the dorr. that means the pins or pin holes are worn. chevy has this problem alot. they make door pin kits for the chevys . you have to actually drill out the hinge holes and put in some brass bushings and new pins to go with it. fords dont have a kit like that because there hinges last way longer than the other guys. FORD TOUGH.

It's the April 2008 issue of Classic Trucks where Grant did a good tutorial on rebuilding bumpside door hinges. He got the hinge rebuild pieces from Dennis Carpenter, including the pins, bushings and springs. Here's the DC catalog:

Hinge pin and bushing kits are available for Fox Body Mustangs ('87-'93) from Napa and were fairly easy to replace on the driver's door of the 1989 GT Convertible I gave to my daughter. It was nice to have the door close the way it is supposed to when I got done with it. The Explorers from '91 to '94 also had hinge pin problems and Napa also sells hinge replacement pin kits for these but I haven't replaced one of these yet. The only thing I didn't like about the Mustang's lower replacement hinge pin is it rides up over time and needs to be tapped back down. There was no place to install a clip or a cotter pin to keep this from happening so when I am able to I will have to take a small drill bit and drill through the pin so I can put a clip through the pin to stop the upward traveling of the pin over time.
Too many projects, too little time, but.. lovin' it!

Just take the ol mig and hit the bottom of the pin with a very small tack on the pin only. This just puts a small berry to keep it from comming back up. The factory has a machine that kinda crimps them on the sides of the pins.

re: doors are leaning
Have you determined that the pin are actually worn.
Open the door up just a couple inches and lift it. See what you have for movement up & down. If none, just re-adjust the hinges.

foghorn, thanks for the idea about the mig.
worldsmysterie, you can also take the approach that you will want to replace the hinges with good used ones too and not worry about rebuilding your bad ones. After you determine that your hinges are indeed worn you can try to check out a few Bumps in the wrecking yards and pull some good hinges and swap them out. I grabbed some (all 4) off of a '70 a while back to have as spares, then I got the '68 Donor and then the '69 Ranger Donor trucks. Now the '72 is in the wrecking yard and it too might have good hinges in it.
