Post by LUVMY69FORD250RANGER »

69 FORD RANGER,

does fluid didnt come out of the bleeder, or is it just clogged
and as far as the rotor, i took off the rotor, how come you dont tighten
the main nut, wouldnt the wheel fly off just being held by a cotter pin, dumb questions, i know.
also there are 2 spring that go over top and lower bolts on the caliper . one has 2 points and the other has one. which goes on top or bottom. thanks
THANKS

1 when you are bleeding the brakes fluid should come out after all of the air comes out of the system. 2 the nut on the rotor is only tightened so far so as to let the bearings nut bind up going down the road. 3 there is a keeper on the nut that the kotter pin goes throught to keep the nut from turniong while going down the road. 4 i am unaware of any springs that hook onto a caliper.

i tightnend the hub bolt. i shouldnt do that. kinda like you would tight a spark plug.and when i turned the bleeder nothing came out i had to take out the whole bleeder screw to push back the pistons. might be clogged of rusted huh

The spindle nut (hub bolt) should NOT be tightened down hard, this will over heat and burn up your bearings and spindle.

To properly preload the bearings;
tighten down the spindle nut while spinning the rotor/drum in 1 direction. For most cars and 1/2 ton trucks this 20-30 ft lbs. Then back off (loosen nut) 1/6-1/8 turn. Install keeper (if used) and new carter pin.

Clogged bleeder screws are normal.I use a small drill bit held with vise grips to get the crud out of them.A dab of anti sieze compound on the threads works wonders for the next time you bleed the brakes. :)

Are you bleeding the brakes or just loosening the bleeder screw? There is a difference. Fluid won't come out unless someone pushes on the brake pedal while it is loose.

Either way, you're next mod should be a haynes/chilton manual. That's the best money spent imo.

If you arent seeing any fluid when someone is pumping the pedal then you might have crudded up lines. I went through this and blew out the lines with an air hose from the master side back to the cylinders.
